KVK empowers women farmers through Kharif pulses awareness program | | | Early Times Report
Reasi, July 4: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, operating under the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J), conducted an awareness-cum-training program on the scientific cultivation of Kharif pulses. The event took place in Kheral village of Pouni block, Reasi district, and was attended by women farmers from the area. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Senior Scientist & Head of KVK Reasi, warmly welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance of pulse crops, emphasizing their nutritional value and contribution to food security. He emphasized the immense potential for pulses cultivation in Reasi district and stressed the need to adopt modern innovations to enhance production and productivity. Dr. Lal provided insights into scientific cultivation practices for Kharif pulses, including improved seed varieties, integrated nutrient management, integrated weed management, and plant protection measures. He also highlighted the income-boosting potential of pulses and their role in soil fertility enhancement through nitrogen fixation. Furthermore, Dr. Lal emphasized the importance of forming and strengthening Self Help Groups (SHGs) to empower rural women. The program witnessed active participation from the farmers, who raised various queries related to pulses production. The scientists provided satisfactory answers and received appreciation for their efforts in promoting pulses production in the area. |
