Principal secretary finance urges sustaining, enhancing GST’s developmental gains in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 5: Santosh D Vaidya, Principal Secretary Finance, highlighted the revolutionary impact of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the country’s tax system, emphasizing the significant improvements in tax collection achieved under this regime. During the commemoration of the 6th Anniversary of GST implementation and the beginning of GST Week celebrations from July 1, Vaidya acknowledged the challenges faced by tax officers and emphasized the importance of addressing system loopholes to sustain and enhance the developmental gains. Recognizing the need for capacity enhancement within the department, Vaidya called for teamwork among officers to yield better results. He expressed his commitment to providing full support and facilitating the operations of his office in any way possible. At the event, Dr. Rashmi Singh, Commissioner of the State Taxes, highlighted the department’s contributions to building a robust economy, promoting growth, and achieving revenue targets. She emphasized the department’s success in creating public awareness through campaigns and outreach initiatives. Namrita Dogra, Additional Commissioner State Taxes Jammu, provided an overview of the tax reforms undertaken in the Jammu division. She highlighted significant milestones achieved and the department’s efforts to engage with stakeholders, utilizing valuable feedback received during awareness campaigns. Shakeel Maqbool, Additional Commissioner State Taxes Kashmir, shared insights into the journey of GST implementation in Jammu and Kashmir. He discussed departmental initiatives, the pre-GST landscape, and the growth percentage achieved under the GST regime. In her concluding remarks, Ankita Kar, Additional Commissioner State Taxes (Tax Planning, Policy, and Advance Ruling), emphasized that the anniversary celebration and GST Week serve as a testament to the remarkable progress made in tax reforms and the commitment of the State Taxes Department to building a transparent and efficient tax system. Kar highlighted that the collective efforts of the department and stakeholders have resulted in improved tax collection and a stronger economy. The event was attended by Deputy Commissioners, State Tax Department officials, and other officers. |
