Vikram Randhawa assesses damage, urges action in flood-affected areas | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 5: Former Legislator and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vikram Randhawa conducted a comprehensive tour of flood-affected areas to gather first-hand information about the losses caused by the rising water levels due to incessant rains in the region. Randhawa visited the flood-affected areas of Bahu Assembly Segment in Ward Number 49 to assess the damages to the houses and properties of local residents caused by the continuous rainfall. During his visit, Randhawa directed the concerned department officers to assess the situation promptly and propose solutions for the immediate restoration of the affected areas and prevention of further damages. He emphasized the importance of monitoring the situation closely and taking appropriate measures to address any emergencies that may arise. Randhawa highlighted the need for short and long-term measures to prevent floods before the heavy monsoon season. He urged the engineers to identify flood-prone areas and prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) to address the vulnerabilities. The BJP leader also appealed to the general public to avoid approaching the Tawi river due to the unprecedented rise in water levels caused by monsoon rains. In addition, Randhawa directed the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and other departments to take action against encroachments, which often obstruct the smooth flow of rainwater and lead to problems for residents. He emphasized the importance of addressing encroachments, particularly in higher reaches areas, and urged strict action against the responsible parties. Randhawa announced that a list of people affected by the rainfall would be compiled and submitted to the relevant departments for necessary assistance and support. The former legislator’s visit aimed to gather crucial information about the losses caused by the floods and emphasized the need for prompt action to restore the affected areas and prevent future damages. |
