Distt administration conducts massive cleanliness drive on banks of River Devika in Purmandal | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 11: To promote cleanliness on the holy land of Purmandal, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Samba Abhishek Sharma today launched a massive Cleanliness drive along the River Devika and its surrounding areas. This community mobilization cum sanitation drive was organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Tourism Jammu, the Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, and the Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority. As part of the campaign, garbage, plastics etc were removed from the banks of the river. The general public was also sensitized on the importance of maintaining cleanliness. A large number of people, members of PRIs, and NSS volunteers of Government Degree College Purmandal, besides officers of Civil and Police Administration also participated in the campaign. A plantation drive was also conducted at Sangar Morh, Purmandal. Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the holy site of Purmandal holds great cultural and religious value for the people of J&K and it should be the utmost priority of all to maintain the sanctity of the sacred Devika River. He called upon the public to discard the use of polythene, maintain hygiene, adopt best waste management practices and segregation and keep the water resources clean. He also thanked all the participants and appealed to them to join hands with the District Administration in future endeavors of cleanliness. SSP Samba, Benam Tosh; SDM Vijaypur, Dr. Rajesh Kumar; CEO Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority, Ved Prakash; DFO Samba, Somdutt Khajuria; District Information Officer, Monika, Tourist Officer Dr. Rajesh Raina and other officers were also present on the occasion. |
