Forest employee killed, another injured in Pulwama terror attack | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 19: A forest employee was killed and another injured in a militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, officials said on Wednesday. Police said two forest employees identified as Imran Yousaf Wani of Mohnu, Charar-e-Sharif of Budgam, and forester Jahangir Ahmed Chechi a resident of Gogjipather, Budgam- were shot at and injured last night by militants near Bangender Bridge in Pulwama. "The injured Imran succumbed to his injuries during the day, " officials said. Conservator of Forests, Irfan Rasool said Imran laid down his life while protecting precious natural treasures. "Today, we mourn the loss of our unsung hero, the fearless forest frontline worker Imran yousaf wani who laid down his life while protecting our precious natural treasures," Irfan tweeted. Giving details about the incident, Police said they received information through reliable sources that militants had fired upon a team of forest department of neighbouring district Budgam causing injuries to two employees, who had laid a checkpoint to apprehend the timber smugglers near Bangender Bridge. "The injured were immediately evacuated to hospital for treatment," police said. While Imran, had a bullet injury in thigh and was shifted to SHMS Hospital in Srinagar for specialised treatment, Jahangir had received minor superficial injuries and was discharged after first aid. Police said a case was registered in Police Station Rajpora and investigation has been initiated. Soon after the incident the whole area was cordoned off by Police, Army and central armed police forces and an intensive search operation was launched. "During the search of the scene of crime, two empty fired cartridges of AK-47 ammunition and one bullet head was recovered from the spot," police said, adding the search operation is going on. |
