Reasi police tightens noose on drug smugglers | | | Early Times Report
Reasi, July 20, Narcotics smugglers faced a significant setback as the Reasi District Police launched a relentless campaign against drug abuse. In two separate incidents, three individuals were arrested with a substantial quantity of illicit substances. During a routine check at Naka Kanthan, officers stopped a Tempo and discovered a cloth bag containing approximately 1kg 818gm of poppy straw-like substance. The vehicle driver, Mohd Saleem, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, leading to his arrest. A case was registered under FIR No. 79/2023 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act at P/S Arnas, and investigations are underway. In another incident near PCP Nangal, a police party on patrolling duty apprehended Sandeep Kumar and Rahul Sharma. The officers found approximately 6 grams of heroin-like substance in their possession. A case was registered under FIR No. 230/2023 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act at P/S Katra, and investigations are ongoing. SSP Reasi, Amit Gupta, emphasized the police's commitment to eradicating drug abuse and illicit liquor smuggling from the region. He urged the community to support the anti-drug drive by sharing information on illegal activities through the district police anti-drug helpline (9070907017), with anonymity assured.
