Despite joining united opposition; NC, PDP refrain from annoying Centre | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 23: Leaders of the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been noticeably silent lately, refraining from taking direct jabs at the Centre. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “ It appears that both parties have come to the realization that continuously antagonizing the Central Government will not serve their cause and won’t bring about any substantial change.” “After August 5, 2019 (when the Centre announced its decision to revoke J&K’s special status and divided it into two Union Territories) the NC and the PDP missed no opportunity to criticize the Centre. However, recent developments indicate a deliberate shift in their approach. This newfound restraint suggests that they want to remain in the good books of the Centre,” the analyst added. Pertinently, both parties have aligned themselves with the unified opposition, which includes various political entities from across the country. “However, NC and PDP leaders have not created much hype about them joining the united opposition. It indicates that leaders of both the parties have understood that incessant bickering and blaming the Central Government may annoy the common people who have witnessed unprecedented development during the past 3-years. And their rhetoric is unlikely to yield any meaningful results in terms of policy changes or implementation,” said, an observer. “The Centre holds significant power and resources, which can be leveraged for the benefit of Jammu and Kashmir. People rather than alienating themselves, have chosen to adopt a more measured approach. They can no longer be misled by raising hollow slogans,” the observer added. “By adopting silence the NC and PDP are trying to position themselves as responsible stakeholders. Leaders of both the parties seem to have realized that there is no point in staging dramas,” said an analyst. “The NC and the PDP are making desperate attempts to maintain a constructive relationship with the Centre, and are trying to drive home a point that they want to work within the system but they have a long way to go to rebuild the trust they have lost,” the analyst added. |
