LAHDC Kargil polls likely to determine J&K’s political scenario | NC, Cong dumping PDP puts question mark on opposition unity | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 27: As the LAHDC (Kragil) elections draw nearer, the political climate in Ladakh is expected to heat up and is likely to have direct impact on political scenario of Jammu and Kashmir. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “The alliance between the National Conference and Congress for LAHDC polls and Peoples Democratic Party being left alone has put a question mark on whether a united opposition front can still emerge in J&K. NC and Congress leaving PDP out of this alliance is a setback for it.” Pertinently, the LAHDC is an elected body that governs the Kargil district of Ladakh. It plays a crucial role in the administration and development of the region. With the upcoming elections being highly anticipated, the National Conference and Congress dumping PDP has caught everyone off guard. “The PDP, which has been vocal for opposition forging unity, is finding itself isolated and excluded from the political equation. This move by the NC and Congress is seen as a clear statement of intent, indicating a rift within the opposition ranks,” the analyst added. He said, “By leaving out the PDP, NC and Congress have given a message that the party led by former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has lost ground in Ladakh after its transition into a Union Territory.” “More than anything PDP being left out from alliance has raised questions about the larger narrative of a united opposition front in J&K and Ladakh. The PDP is finding itself on the outskirts of the political spectrum. It remains to be seen whether this move will further fracture the opposition and hinder their ability to mount a challenge.” |
