Omar holds ‘informal meeting’ | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 8: The National Conference has started to gear up for the Urban Local Body or ULB polls expected in the coming months in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said former Chief Minister the NC Vice President Omar Abdullah on August 8 held an “informal meeting with the close aides” to discuss that the party needs to gear up for the ULB polls across Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said the meeting that was held in the summer capital, was attended by some senior leaders of the party apart from youth faces. Sources said Abdullah told the meeting that he would soon call a formal meeting to discuss the matter with other senior leaders do decide future course of action. Sources said the NC would constitute a committee to finalize names of its candidates for the ULB polls. The committee is likely to be headed by Omar Abdullah himself. The sources said names of several probable faces are already under consideration and the names would be formally announced only once the State Election Commissioner (SEC) for Jammu and Kashmir blows the bugle. The meeting about ULB polls was held on the day when the party president Dr Farooq Abdullah was in the national capital. Sources said when Omar was holding a meeting a Nawa-e-Subh in Srinagar, Dr Abdullah visited the Supreme Court for a discussion with lawyers about the case on the abrogation of the Article 370 on August 5, 2019. It’s pertinent to mention that on July 14 to review preparations for the ULB elections, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) PK Pole had chaired a meeting with top officials. As per the sources in the administration, the ULB polls are likely in October-November. Its pertinent to mention that the Early Times was first to report about ULB elections being held around the autumn of this year. |
