Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 20: The District Congress Committee (DCC) Jammu Rural marked the 79th birth anniversary of the late Rajiv Gandhi, a distinguished party stalwart and former Prime Minister of India, through a commemorative event held at the Jammu North Assembly segment.
The program, orchestrated by Hari Singh Chib, President of DCC Jammu Rural, saw participation from luminaries such as Mula Ram, former Minister, and Yogesh Sawhney, former Minister, along with Block Presidents, senior leaders of DCC and BCC, and local residents of Ward No. 60 Paloura. These dignitaries came together to pay heartfelt tributes to the memory of the former Prime Minister.
Addressing the gathering, Mula Ram highlighted Rajiv Gandhi's pivotal role in shaping the Panchayat Raj System in India. Under his leadership, he noted, the aspirations of iconic figures like Mahatma Gandhi were realized, as powers of planning and development were decentralized to grassroots democratic institutions. This empowered people to forge their own destinies in alignment with their unique requirements, making Rajiv Gandhi a trailblazer of participatory democracy at the grassroots.
Yogesh Sawhney, in his homage to Rajiv Gandhi, spotlighted the array of accomplishments achieved during the former Prime Minister's tenure. He attributed India's emergence as a global leader in Information Technology to Rajiv Gandhi's visionary perspective, which propelled the nation's youth to embrace the challenges of the 21st century with determination.
Hari Singh Chib, the President of DCC Jammu Rural, hailed Rajiv Gandhi as a visionary leader who guided the nation to multifaceted achievements. He underscored Rajiv Gandhi's significant contributions, particularly his youth-oriented policies that equipped the younger generation to confront contemporary challenges.
Chib highlighted Rajiv Gandhi's groundbreaking decision to lower the voting age from 21 to 18 years, a move that aimed to ensure active youth participation in the democratic process. This move, Chib emphasized, laid the foundation for the younger generation's increased involvement in politics, infusing fresh ideas into the nation's service. He hailed Rajiv Gandhi's notable achievements despite his brief political career.
The event concluded with attendees pledging to serve as messengers of peace and harmony, steadfastly adhering to Rajiv Gandhi's guiding principles. The commemoration served as a reminder of Rajiv Gandhi's profound impact on India's political landscape and his enduring legacy.
