JU Department of Economics engages with Bajalta Village through Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 25: Following the visionary lead of the esteemed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Umesh Rai, the Department of Economics at Jammu University embarked on a meaningful expedition to Bajalta Village, which has been wholeheartedly embraced by the University as part of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan initiative. Under the resolute guidance of Prof. Umesh Rai, students from the Department of Economics ventured into the heart of Bajalta Village to witness and engage with the transformative power of community engagement. Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan's mission of connecting educational institutions with rural communities resonated deeply with this endeavor. During their visit, the students had the privilege of interacting with the industrious women who are part of Self Help Groups. These women are at the forefront of change, driving economic empowerment and self-reliance. The students visited homes within the village, inquiring about the various government facilities provided to aid women and financially disadvantaged families in launching small businesses. The enterprising endeavors of these women were evident, with activities ranging from crafting jute articles for domestic use to producing bed sheets and clothing that find their way to local markets. A subgroup of students, with an aptitude for data collection and analysis, conducted a comprehensive survey of selected households. Their diligent efforts yielded crucial information about household profiles and the availability of essential amenities within the village. These data points will be meticulously interpreted and submitted to the Department of Economics, contributing to the academic evaluation of their course paper centered around Indian Economic Policy. The expedition was masterfully led by Prof. Jasbir Singh, and the watchful guidance of Dr. Nikita Sharma and Dr. Rennie Mahajan, Assistant Professors within the Department of Economics, ensured that the visit was insightful and impactful. Prof. Aroon Sharma, the Head of the Department of Economics, flagged off the students from the Fountain Plaza, inspiring them to delve into this enriching experience. The engagement between the JU Department of Economics and Bajalta Village exemplifies the essence of community-driven development and education. Through initiatives like Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan, the university community strengthens its bond with rural India, contributing to sustainable growth and transformation while offering students a practical understanding of the real-world implications of economic policies. |
