Azad concludes four-day tour of Marwah, Warwan, assures comprehensive development | | | Early Times Report KISHTWAR, Aug 25: Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), wrapped up his four-day tour of the remote Marwah and Warwan areas of Kishtwar district with a promise of holistic development for these often-neglected regions. Azad, a former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, addressed multiple public meetings during his tour and received a warm welcome from the local people. During his speeches, Azad highlighted the need for comprehensive development in Marwah and Warwan, which have historically been overlooked by successive governments. He assured the people of these areas that if DPAP were to come into power, his government would prioritize constructing tunnels to connect these remote regions with Kashmir. He also pledged to improve electricity and mobile connectivity, as these villages often remain isolated from the rest of the country for a significant portion of the year. Azad criticized the lack of attention from past governments, particularly in terms of infrastructure and connectivity. He promised to allocate funds for two more blocks, establish higher secondary schools in Deharna, Changer, and Gumri, and conduct special police recruitment drives for the youth of Marwah and Warwan. Addressing the lack of basic amenities like electricity and mobile connectivity, Azad expressed his surprise that in the 21st century, such challenges still persist in these areas. He lamented that development plans often remain on paper and called for urgent attention to the infrastructure needs of remote villages. During his tour, Azad was accompanied by other party leaders, including Vice-Chairman G M Saroori, General Secretary Chaudary Haroon Khatana, Chief Spokesperson Salman Nizami, and District President Shabir Lone. The residents of Warwan fondly recalled Azad's previous efforts in providing assistance to families affected by a devastating fire in 2016. In his speeches, Azad emphasized the untapped beauty of Marwah and Warwan valleys and pledged to promote tourism in the region to create employment opportunities for local youth. He envisioned the tunnels connecting these areas to Kashmir as a means to ensure round-the-clock connectivity and boost tourism.
