BJP's stance on J&K assembly polls aligns with SG's statement: Kavinder Gupta
8/31/2023 10:22:30 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 31: Kavinder Gupta, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has reaffirmed the party's unwavering position on the upcoming Assembly elections in the region. Gupta emphasized that the BJP is resolute in its desire to hold the elections at the earliest opportunity.
In a statement released to the media, Kavinder Gupta clarified that the BJP's stance on the Assembly elections aligns perfectly with the clear and unambiguous statement made by Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta, before the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court. According to Gupta, the elections in Jammu and Kashmir will occur in three phases - first for the Panchayats, followed by municipal polls, and finally, the legislative assembly elections, as indicated by SG Mehta.
Gupta noted that organizing elections involves a complex series of processes, from preparing voter lists to casting votes, conducting counts, and declaring results. This complexity is further compounded in regions with challenging geographical terrains like J&K. He stressed that both the BJP and the Central Government are fully prepared for elections and await the decisions of the Election Commission of India and the Election Commission of J&K regarding the sequence and execution of the polls. Gupta revealed that the process of updating the voter list is nearing completion and is expected to be finalized within a month.
Highlighting the progress achieved, Gupta expressed satisfaction that the BJP-led government has managed to establish peace in the region, with terror-related incidents dropping by 90.2% and incidents of stone pelting and protests becoming a thing of the past. He attributed this transformation to the efforts of the BJP government at the Centre, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gupta also underscored that the BJP cadre in J&K is fully prepared for the Assembly elections whenever they are announced by the Election Commission.
