NSS unit at GDC Neeli nallah, Udhampur, takes a stand against drug abuse with awareness program

UDHAMPUR, Sept 2: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit at Government Degree College Neeli Nallah, Udhampur, took a proactive step towards addressing the pressing issue of drug abuse by organizing a poster-making and slogan-writing competition on the "Ill Effects of Drug Abuse" as part of the Nasha Mukth Bharat Campaign. The event, held on September 2nd, 2023, garnered enthusiastic participation from students, all guided by the esteemed Principal of the college, Prof. Hans Raj.
The competition witnessed the artistic talents of around a dozen students who used their creativity to convey the severe consequences of drug abuse through their posters. Each poster depicted a different facet of the harmful effects associated with substance abuse.
Principal Prof. Hans Raj addressed the gathering, shedding light on the detrimental impact of drug abuse on both the body and the mind. He emphasized that this habit not only poses immediate health risks but also jeopardizes a person's promising future. He highlighted how some students, succumbing to peer pressure and the desire to excel academically or in sports, resort to drug use. Prof. Hans Raj urged students to adopt healthier alternatives, such as engaging in sports and yoga, to enhance their performance and cognitive abilities, rather than falling into the trap of drug addiction.
The competition results were announced with Ms. Rupali Rajput from Semester 5th securing the 1st position, Neharika Sharma from Semester 5th claiming the 2nd position, and Aman Sharma from Semester 3rd achieving the 3rd position. These students' contributions not only displayed their creative talents but also their commitment to raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
The event was meticulously organized by Dr. Radha Rani, NSS Program Officer, and Dr. Swati Dutt. Others present at the program included Neha Devi, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Pradeep Kumar, Kumari Mahima Bhagat, and Akhter Hussain Rather.
The NSS Unit at GDC Neeli Nallah, Udhampur, has taken a commendable step in addressing a critical issue that affects society. By fostering awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse, they are contributing to the larger goal of creating a drug-free and healthier community.
