NC-Apni Party fight it out on Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 2: A war of words between the National Conference and the Apni Party has only heated up after the latter took a dig at the NC founder and former Chief Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. While addressing a rally in Uri, the Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari recently said: “Even Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the tallest leader of his times, used to change his stances time and again and did not tell the people the truth, despite being privy to the truth, as suggested by his famous Lal Chowk speech. He refrained from openly acknowledging it.” This is the first time in the recent past that Bukhari targeted deceased Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. Bukhari added that: “Political families have always believed they were entitled to rule, treating the common populace as their subjects within Jammu and Kashmir”. The NC has only opened a front against Bukhari. The NC spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said: “Sher-e-Kashmir is too big a leader for a person like Bukhari to comment on. The narrative to discredit Sheikh sahab’s legacy is an old tactic employed by anti-Kashmir forces for many decades now. The good thing is that all these designs have been defeated in the past and it will be defeated in future too. The NC has accused Bukhari of lacking “moral disposition to point fingers at others.” The NC leaders have said that Bukhari was “frustrated” by public support enjoyed by the NC. Earlier, in the middle of August the NC had openly dared the Apni Party. For the first time in the recent past, the NC had said the political workers associated with Altaf Bukhari’s party were joining them. “Hundreds of political workers from Sagam Dooru, who were associated with Apni Party, were warmly welcomed into JKNC by Party VP Omar Abdullah in an event held at party office, Nawa-e-Subha, Srinagar,” the NC had said in a formal statement. Observers said a war of words between the two political parties would only fester in the coming days. Despite repeated attempts the two groups couldn’t be contacted for comments. |
