NHAI officials' visit to NH-44 at Sarore Toll Plaza seen as deceptive: Rattan Lal Gupta
9/2/2023 10:34:32 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 2: Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), has criticized the recent visit of senior National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials to assess National Highway-44, particularly the Sarore Toll Plaza area. Gupta views this visit as a mere attempt to deceive and mislead the people of the Union Territory.
Rattan Lal Gupta asserted that the government had previously assured the protesting people that it would resolve the issue of removing the Sarore Toll Plaza within four days. However, to date, no action has been taken in this regard. He accused both the BJP-led central government and the Union Territory Administration of betraying the people of Jammu on important issues.
Gupta expressed disappointment with the government's treatment of the people of Jammu, stating that their aspirations had been disregarded. He highlighted the failure of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to fulfill his commitment made in Parliament on February 6, 2020. Gadkari had pledged that no toll plaza would be installed within a radius of less than 60 kilometers and that any such installation would be considered illegal and removed within three months.
Rattan Lal Gupta noted that there is currently significant public anger, as evidenced by successful Jammu bandh (shutdown) calls, ongoing protests against the illegal Sarore Toll Plaza, and opposition to the installation of smart meters. He emphasized that recent Jammu bandhs had dealt a severe financial blow to Jammu and Kashmir for which the government bears full responsibility.
Gupta pointed out that youth were protesting against recruitment scams, and even employees, particularly daily wage workers, were staging protests for their legitimate demands. He concluded that the BJP-led government was deceiving the people of the Union Territory and the nation.
Rattan Lal Gupta claimed that the people of Jammu and Kashmir had come to realize that the National Conference was their only hope and were eagerly waiting to respond to the BJP in the upcoming elections by replacing the incompetent government at both the central and Union Territory levels. He accused the BJP of betraying the people of Jammu and Kashmir and failing to deliver on their expectations.
This statement from Rattan Lal Gupta highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding the Sarore Toll Plaza and the grievances of the people of Jammu. It also underscores the political dynamics in the region as elections approach.
