Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Sept 7: Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi, the Chairperson of the J&K Waqf Board and Minister of State, paid a visit to Hazratbal in Kabamarg, South Kashmir, where she paid her respects at the historic Dargah. During her visit, she laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Grand Mosque within the shrine complex. Dr. Andrabi also assessed the management of the shrine and issued directives to enhance cleanliness on the premises.
Speaking to the media after the foundation ceremony, Dr. Andrabi expressed her gratitude that the construction of this grand mosque, a proposal that had been pending for years, is now underway. She assured that the project would be completed within the stipulated time frame with the assistance of the local community. Dr. Andrabi also met with local public delegations and administrative representatives during her visit.
Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi then proceeded to visit the Aadar Sharief Khiram in Bijbehara and offered her prayers at the shrine. It is worth noting that this historic shrine was taken under the jurisdiction of the Waqf Board last year after Dr. Andrabi's intervention, following the implementation of a government notification issued several years ago. There were allegations of misappropriation of funds at the shrine by the previous local management committee, leading to the initiation of a high-powered inquiry. Subsequently, an FIR has been registered, and legal action against the accused has commenced. Dr. Andrabi's visit holds significance in light of these developments.
During her visit to Aadar Sharief Khiram, Dr. Andrabi evaluated the facilities and management and issued instructions to enhance the amenities for pilgrims, particularly in anticipation of upcoming festival gatherings at the shrine. She was accompanied by Dr. Syed Majid Jahangir, the CEO of the Waqf Board, and Ishtiyaq Mohiuddin, the Tehsildar of the Board, among others.
Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi's visit reflects her commitment to ensuring the proper management and development of religious shrines, as well as her dedication to addressing issues related to their governance and finances.
