Worries ahead for NC as Jabbar announces to contest ULB polls | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 7: The former MLA from central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar is likely to create problems for the National Conference in coming Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and next assembly elections in some strong pockets of the party. After launching his own party namely Jammu Kashmir United Movement (JKUM), Jabbar formally unveiled his party flag in Srinagar and announced to contest the upcoming ULB elections in Kashmir Valley. Jabbar, 48, launched the new outfit as the regional parties are gearing up for the upcoming Panchayat elections likely to be held in October-November later this year. Five months after he raised a banner of revolt against the party leadership, the National Conference on Tuesday expelled former legislator and rebel leader Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar from the party for six years for indulging in anti-party activities. Sheikh Jabbar was expelled from the primary membership of the NC in the month of April this year as he had raised a banner of revolt against party leadership especially against Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah. Jabbar who was an MLA from the Ganderbal Assembly segment from 2014 till it was dissolved in 2018, was also the party’s district president for Ganderbal in central Kashmir. Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar had raised a banner of revolt in November 2022 after the party appointed constituency in-charges for the next assembly elections. Jabbar said that the party’s present leadership is “incompetent” to deal with the affairs within the party. On November 2, 2022, the National Conference appointed constituency in-charges for the next assembly elections. Annoyed party leader and former MLA from Ganderbal Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar had already raised a banner of revolt against the party leadership. |
