Proposed reservation in ULB wards: BJP to file objections | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 12: As the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has extended the last date for receiving objections and suggestions regarding reservations for different categories, the BJP has decided to file objections against reservations of some wards of the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). Highly placed sources said that BJP leadership has constituted a four-member team to look into all aspects before filing objections before the CEO against the reservation of some wards. “The team is going through population ratio of the wards proposed to be reserved in the coming elections of the ULBs especially in Jammu province”, sources said and added that the party has also sought suggestions from legal experts to file objections. Sources said that some corporators of Jammu Municipal Corporation have raised objections before the leadership against proposal of the CEO to reserve their wards. As reported earlier Pandurang K. Pole Chief Electoral Officer stated in a notification that several requests have been received from Deputy Commissioners as well as political parties and other stakeholders to extend the last date for filing objections/suggestions on account of holidays and the requirement of more time to look into the details of proposals. “Now, therefore, keeping in view the demand of various stakeholders and in order to give a fair opportunity to all stakeholders to make their claims/objections, the last date for receiving objections/suggestions w.r.t the draft reservation notification is hereby extended up to 14th September 2023”, the notification reads as. |
