GDC Surankote organised national workshop on World Ozone Day

JAMMU, Sept 16: On September 16, 2023 a National level Workshop on the occasion of "World Ozone Day" was organised by Institution's Innovation Council, Government Degree College Surankote in collaboration with Science, Technology and Innovation Council, Department of Science and Technology, UT of J&K. The event formally began with the traditional lamp lighting by the esteemed chief guest of the occasion Prof Zamir Ahmed Principal GDC Mandi, Guest of Honour Jahangir Hussain Mir, Worthy Principal (Prof.) Dr. Rani Mughal, IQAC Coordinator Dr. Syed Wajahat Hussain and IIC President, Dr.Ashfaq Mughal.
The formal welcome address was presented by IQAC Coordinator Dr.Syed Wajahat Hussain followed by College tarana by NSS volunteers.
The introduction about the workshop and IIC was given by Dr. Mohammed Ashfaq Mughal IIC President. The Keynote speaker of the event was Prof. (Dr.) Sallahudin Qureshi, a renowned geographer and former Chairman Department of Geography AMU Aligarh followed by an invited talk deliberation by Prof. Sarshad Hussain HOD Zoology.
Besides students from the department of Geography exhibited a number of models and also presented their papers on the said topic on Ozone depletion.
A colourful Cultural programme was also organised by students on the very day to add colour to the day long workshop. The program witnessed an engrossing one hour key deliberation by Prof Salahudin Qureshi who made comprehensive address keeping in mind the level of the young learners of the institution right from the formation of ozone layer to the Islamic concept of 7 heavens and culminated with the remediation of the ozone layer. Later Jahangir Hussain Mir also highlighted the importance of Ozone and advised students to adopt the measures at the grassroot level to combat ozone layer thinning.
The chief guest of the occasion Prof. Zamir Ahmed who happens to be a chemical scientist discussed about the chemical formulation to thinning of the ozone layer and the chemicals responsible for the same and ended his speech with a special focus to combat global warming and advised students to minimize the use of CFC's and protect the environment. He also talked about the necessity of organising such programmes in the college and lauded Principal of the college for the success of the national level workshop.
The programme ended with presidential address given by Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rani Mughal. She also appreciated the efforts of HOD Geography Dr Ashfaq Mughal and described him as not only the efficient teacher but an able and diligent president of the IIC. The program culminated with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Aafia Zaman. Pertinent to mention here is that the programme was sponsored by Innovation Council, Science and Technology Department, Government of Jammu and Kashmir wherein students, staff and guests were served refreshments. Valedictory function witnessed a grand felicitation ceremony for dignitaries and the students who presented their papers and exhibited scientific models. The program was eloquently conducted by Prof Waseem Ul Haq HOD Physics.
