After Cong, Omar also backs Govt on Canada issue | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 28: Echoing the stand of the Union Government, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday asked the Canadian government to share evidence before alleging role of India in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. “Canada is alleging that India did some incident in that country. They should share the evidence with India,” Abdullah told reporters at Srinagar. Omar Abdullah, who served as Minister of State for External Affairs during the Atal Behari Vajpayee-led NDA government, said that Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar has said India will take action if Ottawa shares its evidence with New Delhi. “India has said the same thing at the UN as well. The foreign minister said if there is any evidence, share it. If there is a need to take any corrective measures after that, India will do it. Only verbal claims would not work, the evidence should be shared with India”. Omar Abdullah is the first politician of J&K who openly supported the Union Government’s stand on confrontation with the Canadian government. Earlier Congress extended its support to the Centre on this issue, saying that the party has always believed that the country's interests and concerns must be kept paramount. Congress communication chief Jairam Ramesh said, "The Indian National Congress has always believed that our country's fight against terrorism has to be uncompromising, especially when terrorism threatens India's sovereignty, unity and integrity”. “Our country's interests and concerns must be kept paramount at all times,” he added. Senior Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi slammed the Canadian Prime Minister, dubbing him “dangerous for India as any other anti-India propagandist”. “Justin Trudeau is the biggest joker masquerading as a leader that currently exists on the planet. He is as dangerous for India as any other anti-India propagandist. India should immediately reduce security from the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi. Pathetic!,” he tweeted. |
