Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 1: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit-Prabha of Government Degree College Ramgarh took the lead in organizing a 'Swachhata Drive' as part of the 'Swachhata Hi Sewa' initiative, aligned with the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav. This cleanliness drive encompassed both the College premises and the College's adopted village, 'Kalah,' and included a pledge on 'Swachhata Abhiyaan' within the college premises, followed by a 'Run for Swachhata Shramdaan' activity.
The entire initiative was carried out under the able supervision and leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, the Principal of the College.
Dr. Shamsher Lal, NSS Programme Officer, along with NSS committee members and dedicated NSS volunteers, spearheaded the drive. In an opening briefing, Dr. Shamsher Lal stressed the vital importance of cleanliness and urged volunteers to maintain a clean environment at all times. He emphasized that such activities provide the College with an excellent opportunity to fulfill its social responsibilities to society at large. Dr. Shamsher Lal also invoked Mahatma Gandhi's belief that 'cleanliness is next to godliness.'
The participation of a significant number of NSS volunteers ensured the success of the cleanliness drive. They diligently cleaned not only the College premises but also the streets of the adopted village. Waste was collected and disposed of at designated sites, and the volunteers also actively participated in the 'Run for Swachhata Shramdaan' event.
The entire program, including the pledge, was orchestrated by Dr. Shamsher Lal, the NSS Programme Officer, with the proceedings of the pledge led by NSS volunteer, Ms. Jagmeet Kour. The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from enrolled students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff, all of whom took the pledge, exemplifying their commitment to cleanliness and civic responsibility.
GDC Ramgarh's 'Swachhata Drive' serves as a noteworthy contribution to the 'Swachhata Hi Sewa' campaign and embodies the spirit of the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, fostering a cleaner and more responsible society. The College's dedication to these initiatives underscores its commitment to societal well-being and Mahatma Gandhi's vision of cleanliness.
