Indian Govt embraces technology to strengthen citizen-government relations and enhance governance | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 1: In a significant address at the "New Paradigms of Governance" conference organized by the Indian Institute of Public Administration, Jammu & Kashmir Regional Branch (IIPA JKRB), V. Srinivas, (IAS) Secretary, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Government of India, emphasized the immense potential of technology to bring government and citizens closer together. He discussed various policy interventions aimed at digital empowerment of citizens and the transformation of institutions to optimize transparency and accountability in government operations. Highlighting the role of technology in good governance, Srinivas mentioned initiatives such as the Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS), which has streamlined grievance redressal mechanisms and received recognition through the prestigious PM's Awards for Excellence. He also cited examples like the "Har Ghar Jal Yojana" and the "Aspirational Districts Program," which demonstrate the government's commitment to improving the lives of citizens, particularly in rural areas. Srinivas pointed out the successful implementation of the District Good Governance Index in Jammu and Kashmir, encouraging districts across the nation to compete for higher standards of governance and service delivery. He also highlighted the National E-Services Delivery Assessment, promoting innovation and efficient public grievance redressal. Moreover, Srinivas emphasized the use of technology to enhance efficiency in the Central Secretariat and streamline processes, ultimately achieving greater effectiveness in policy formulation and implementation. The conference also featured Dr. Ashok Bhan, IPS (Retd), Former DGP, JKP and Patron, IIPA JKRB, who stressed the importance of proactive citizen involvement and a citizen-centric approach in governance. He called for empowering citizens and fostering participation to ensure inclusive and equitable practices. BR Sharma, IAS (Retd), Former Secretary, GoI and Chief Secretary, JK, and Chairman of IIPA JKRB, emphasized e-government as a developmental priority, with a focus on citizen-centric governance and rule-of-law-based implementation. He highlighted the integration of cutting-edge technology as vital for achieving objectives in the pursuit of good governance. The conference, attended by over 100 government officials, members of IIPA, and eminent figures from civil society and academia, showcased the government's commitment to providing efficient, transparent, and citizen-centric services as part of its "Vision India@2047" initiative, aligning with the aspirations of a 'New India' by 2047. As India continues on its path of digital transformation, these discussions underscore the pivotal role of technology in building a stronger and more prosperous nation. |
