J&K State Taxes Department partners with ICAI to boost knowledge sharing and capacity building

SRINAGAR, Oct 1: The J&K State Taxes Department has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to enhance knowledge sharing and capacity building for the department's officers. The MoU was signed in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha.
During the ceremony, the Lt. Governor praised the professionalism demonstrated by the J&K State Taxes Department and ICAI. He emphasized that this MoU signifies a new partnership between ICAI and Jammu & Kashmir. The support and assistance provided by ICAI to the State Taxes Department will aid in future policy-making and other aspects related to taxation, further strengthening ongoing reforms to improve ease of doing business and the overall economy.
The Lt. Governor expressed his appreciation for the honest taxpayers, acknowledging their significant contributions to the development of J&K. He highlighted the government's efforts to create a favorable environment for the economy and businesses. Notably, J&K's GST revenue growth has outpaced the national average, providing confidence in the region's future prospects due to recent reforms aimed at accelerating economic growth and promoting social equality.
The Lt. Governor also commended the State Taxes Department for simplifying the tax-paying process, making it more user-friendly across all districts and promoting awareness of the tax regime. He called on both the department and the citizens of the Union Territory to play a constructive role in driving industrialization and positioning J&K as a key contributor to India's development.
Furthermore, the Lt. Governor assured the ICAI of the administration's full support in establishing their Centre of Excellence in the Union Territory. The ceremony also included the release of the revised edition of GST Acts and Rules - Bare Law and the felicitation of consumers as part of the 'Mera Bill Mera Adhikar' campaign.
Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; Santosh D Vaidya, Principal Secretary, Finance; Dr. Rashmi Singh, Commissioner of the State Taxes Department; Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, Vice President of ICAI; Sushil Kumar Goyal, Chairman of the GST & Indirect Taxes Committee; Umesh Sharma, Vice Chairman of the GST & Indirect Taxes Committee; senior officers; members of ICAI; representatives of Trade & Industry Associations; and heads of educational institutions were also in attendance.
