J&K Climbers win three medals in speed climbing at 27th North zone sport climbing championship” | | | Agencies
New Delhi,Oct 1: Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) climbers showcased their skill and determination on the first day of the 27th North Zone Sport Climbing Championship held at the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi. The climbers from the region clinched three medals in speed climbing, representing their state with pride. In a highly competitive women’s category, Shilpa Charak faced off against international climber Ritika Rawat of Delhi and secured a well-deserved silver medal. This achievement highlights her exceptional climbing skills and determination. Two other emerging climbers from J&K, Kafeel Ul Haq from Pulwama and Ankit Singh from Kishtwar, also made their mark at the championship. Kafeel Ul Haq secured a silver medal, while Ankit Singh secured a bronze medal, showcasing their potential in the sport. Ayaana Bhagat, participating in her maiden zonal competition, delivered a commendable performance. She advanced to the quarter-finals in speed climbing, where she faced an experienced national climber from Delhi. Despite her best efforts, Ayaana Bhagat couldn’t match the speed of her rival but gained valuable experience in the competition. The championship also includes speed climbing competitions in the Men and Junior Boys categories, where J&K climbers are actively participating and demonstrating their climbing prowess. |
