GDC Samba celebrates NSS day

SAMBA, Oct 4: The NSS unit of PPNDGDC Samba celebrated the National Service Scheme (NSS) Day with great enthusiasm. The event witnessed the presence of a large number of NSS volunteers, students and faculty members. Prof. Jasbir Singh, Head, Department of Philosophy, Former Chairperson NSS, University of Jammu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr. Sandhya Bhardwaj, Associate Professor, English, Former NSS Coordinator, Cluster University of Jammu was the Special Invitee.
The function commenced with the recitation of the National Anthem followed by the traditional lamp lighting ceremony. Prof (Dr) Twinkle Suri, Principal of the college warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and highlighted the numerous initiatives undertaken by the NSS unit of the college to address various social issues. She also applauded the selfless efforts of NSS volunteers which reflects the essence of democratic living.
Prof. Jasbir Singh in his address emphasized on the transformative power of the NSS in fostering a perfect personality of the students that will further help in contributing towards the welfare of the society. He dwelled on the significance of NSS that aims at instilling love and respect for country and promoting harmony and service mindedness among young volunteers. Dr. Sandhya Bhardwaj exhorted that NSS has become a foundation for education, developing human values through a wide range of meaningful creative, awareness programmes for the betterment of society.
The highlight of the event was the establishment of a dedicated corner by Dept. of Pol. Science within the college adorned with items and literature associated with Mahatma Gandhi, serving as a heartfelt tribute to the iconic leader.
The event also witnessed the presentation of a mesmerizing cultural bonanza by NSS volunteers that fetched a great applause from the audience. The proceedings of the function were conducted by Saloni and Neha, NSS volunteers. The function culminated with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Geeta Lakhotra, NSS Programme officer of the college.
