Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 6: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Jammu and Kashmir, Divisional Office in Jammu, successfully concluded a three-day orientation programme focused on Project-Based Learning (PBL) for skill development leading to innovation and entrepreneurship. The event, held from October 4th to October 6th, 2023, aimed to empower educators and educational leaders with innovative teaching approaches. The programme was organized by the Department of Art and Vocational Education, Academic Unit-I, SCERT J&K Jammu, under the mentorship of Prof. (Dr.) Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director of SCERT J&K, and with the able guidance and supervision of H.R. Pakhroo, Joint Director of SCERT J&K Jammu. The welcome address was delivered by Kishor Kumar, Associate Professor at SCERT J&K Jammu. Several distinguished educators, including Surjit Kumar Sharma, Swaran Singh Jaral, N. P. Singh, Dr. Sanjeevani Sharma, and Mtr. Parveen Akhtar, were present during the inaugural session. A total of 40 participants, comprising faculty members and Key Resource Persons (KRPs) from 10 District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) across Jammu Division, attended the programme. Four representatives from each DIET were invited to participate. The primary goal of the orientation programme was to familiarize teachers, masters, lecturers, and DIET faculty with the principles of Project-Based Learning and how it can be utilized to develop students' skills in innovation and entrepreneurship. Resource persons, including Pooja Sharma, Yogesh Kumar, Rakesh Chobber, Monika Sharma, Bindia Balwal, Sabah Rasheed, Ashok Kumar, Meenakshi Chandan, and Vaishali, all from SCERT J&K Jammu, conducted sessions covering various aspects of PBL. Topics included the meaning and characteristics of Project-Based Learning, its goals and advantages, skill development through PBL, challenges in its adoption, PBL management and design, gender sensitivity, and PBL's role in fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. The programme also covered interactive sessions on PBL management, design, and online resources as Teaching-Learning Materials (TLM) for PBL. The training programme was effectively coordinated by Pooja Sharma, Sr. Academic Officer, with support from Sabah Rashid, Academic Officer, JKSCERT Jammu, and technical coordination by Yogesh Kumar. The organizing team included Shamim Nazki, Meena Thakur, Dr. Meenakshi Chandan, Vaishali Singh, Manisha Chun, and others. During the valedictory speech, N.P. Singh, Associate Professor, emphasized the need to transition from traditional lecture-based teaching methods to modern pedagogies like project-based learning, peer learning, and collaborative learning. He highlighted the importance of fostering innovation, inquiry, and 21st-century skills among learners in alignment with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Pooja Sharma, the programme's coordinator.
