CCI applauds Govt's decision to uphold property tax, urges action on inflated bills | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 6: The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Jammu, has expressed its appreciation for the Jammu and Kashmir Government's decision to maintain the imposition of property tax in Jammu. An urgent meeting was convened at the Chamber House, presided over by Arun Gupta, President of CCI Jammu, and attended by other office bearers of the Jammu Chamber. During the meeting, Arun Gupta conveyed sincere gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor for demonstrating a strong commitment to the aspirations of the people of Jammu by honoring the request made by the Jammu Chamber. It is worth noting that the Jammu Chamber had previously called for the suspension of property tax and had even organized a Jammu Bandh in support of this demand. The overwhelming support received from the people of Jammu underscored the significance of this issue within the community. Arun Gupta urged the government to engage in a comprehensive dialogue with all relevant stakeholders regarding property tax. He stressed the importance of formulating a well-considered property tax policy through extensive consultations, believing that this approach would contribute to the development and prosperity of the region. Additionally, Arun Gupta welcomed the decision of the Lieutenant Governor to address concerns related to erroneous and inflated electricity bills in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that many individuals have suffered due to these inaccuracies, leading to undue hardship. Arun Gupta appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to instruct the Power Department not to disconnect power connections for poor and needy residents. Ensuring uninterrupted access to electricity for the most vulnerable in society is of paramount importance. The President of the Jammu Chamber also urged the Power Department to prioritize the rectification of false and inflated bills and expedite the resolution process to alleviate the burden on affected households. Furthermore, he called upon the government to halt any harassment of citizens related to the implementation of pre-paid meters, expressing the Chamber's opposition to the implementation of the prepaid meter system. Arun Gupta also requested the government to ensure uninterrupted power supply to industrial units, as they are currently facing challenges and hardships due to unscheduled power cuts. President CCI Arun Gupta called on the LG Government to address the other issues raised by the Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Jammu, emphasizing that the people of Jammu have full faith in the Chamber of Commerce & Industry, as it is the only elected body that raises issues pertaining to the people of Jammu. The meeting also saw the participation of other office bearers, including Anil Gupta, Sr. Vice President, Rajeev Gupta, Jr. Vice President, Manish Gupta, Secretary General, Rajesh Gupta, Secretary, and Rajesh Gupta, Treasurer. |
