Early Times Report LEH, Oct 6: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, hosted an Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) in Leh. Over two hundred students, along with the entire teaching and non-teaching staff, participated in the programme. Addressing the gathering, Principal of GBHSS, Tsewang Dolma, expressed her gratitude to CBC for selecting the school as the venue for the event. She encouraged the students to take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings and to make continuous efforts to keep their environment clean. Principal Dolma emphasized that while programmes and awareness drives are essential, individuals should consider cleanliness a year-round mission, rather than something restricted to a specific period or phase. State Mission Manager of the Municipal Committee Leh, Fariha Yousuf, also spoke to the students, emphasizing that the motivation to maintain cleanliness should come from within each individual. She urged the students to understand their roles and responsibilities in maintaining a clean environment. Yousuf stressed the importance of waste segregation at its source, highlighting that waste can be a valuable resource leading to revenue generation when managed properly. However, when different types of waste are mixed together, they become worthless and hazardous. As part of the ICOP, students took a 'Swachhata Pledge,' committing to spreading the message of cleanliness and dedicating two hours each week to cleanliness-related activities. The programme also featured performances by the Cultural and Traditional Society of Ladakh, captivating the audience. In the spirit of the event, a dustbin was donated to the school, and students actively participated in a cleanliness drive to clean the school's surroundings. Field Publicity Officer of CBC Field Office Leh, Aamir Amin Nowshahri, expressed gratitude to the district administration of Leh and the school authorities for their support in conducting the ICOP at short notice. He encouraged students to make cleanliness a core principle in their lives and to inspire others to do the same.
