Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 14: Under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Director Health Services Jammu, a review meeting of the National Rabies Control Programme was held on 14th October 2023 at Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. The meeting was organized by the Office of the State Surveillance Unit, Jammu Division, and witnessed the participation of District Health Officers (DHOs), Block Medical Officers (BMOs), Medical Officers (MOs), and District Epidemiologists from districts Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Ramban, Udhampur, and Reasi. Key participants included Dr. Sanjay Turki, Assistant Director Schemes, Directorate of Health Services Jammu; Dr. Parveen Yograj, Medical Superintendent of Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu; and Dr. D.K. Bhagat, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department. Dr. Harjeet Rai, Epidemiologist and State Surveillance Officer for Jammu Division, welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance of the National Rabies Control Programme, which aims to prevent and control deaths caused by rabies in humans. The program seeks to progressively achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target of eliminating dog-mediated rabies by 2030 and emphasizes the need for intersectoral coordination between the medical sector, veterinary sector, and municipal corporations to accomplish this goal. During the meeting, Dr. Sanjay Turki provided insights into the NRCP's strategies and achievements, while Dr. D.K. Bhagat discussed the role and responsibilities of the Animal Husbandry Department in implementing the NRCP. Dr. Parveen Yograj, Medical Superintendent of Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, stressed the importance of routinely organizing such training sessions to keep the staff updated with the latest developments and guidelines. Resource persons at the meeting delivered presentations on various aspects of the NRCP, including its guidelines, pathogenesis, clinical features, and rabies prevention. The meeting served as a platform for discussing the critical role of the Animal Husbandry Department and Municipalities in the NRCP. |
