10/20/2023 10:23:50 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 20: The Police Technical Training Institute (PTTI) in Vijaypur organized a Moot Court Mock Drill under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) cases, aimed at familiarizing police personnel with the process of appearing and deposing their statements as prosecution witnesses in front of the Courts. This significant event took place at the newly established Moot Court at PTTI Vijaypur, under the supervision of Shri Haseeb-Ur-Rehman, an IPS officer and DIG SIU Jammu Zone, who is designated as the Nodal Officer for Jammu Zone by the PHQ-J&K for organizing Moot Court Proceedings for prosecution witnesses.
During the event, a mock drill was conducted based on a UAPA case from District Kathua. Police witnesses involved in this case appeared before the Moot Court and were cross-examined by designated defense counsel. Prior to the mock drill, Shiv Kumar, an IPS officer and the Principal of PTTI Vijaypur, extended a warm welcome to DIG SIU Jammu Zone and various Investigating officers from different districts.
DIG SIU Jammu Zone commended the efforts of the PTTI Vijaypur in swiftly establishing the moot court in the institute and expressed optimism that the moot court trials would be invaluable in helping trainees and police personnel gain a better understanding of court proceedings. He stressed the importance of police personnel keeping notepads and pens with them to document activities related to a case at the scene of occurrence and afterward. This practice would enable them to recall details accurately when testifying as prosecution witnesses. Moreover, Investigating Officers were instructed to thoroughly brief police personnel accompanying them during the investigation of cases on a daily basis to ensure a logical conclusion in police cases.
In addition to the presence of Dhushyant Sharma, SSP, Vice Principal of PTTI Vijaypur, Zia-Ul-Haq (Dy.SP Outdoor), Kuldeep Raj (Dy.SP Indoor/Tech), Khushwant Singh (Dy.SP Admn.), Chief Investigation Officers (Dy.SPs) from various districts, including Tilak Raj Bhardwaj, Vishal Sharma, Rajesh Jasrotia, Sahil Mahajan, Aijaz Choudhary, and other officers, officials, and trainees from PTTI Vijaypur also graced the occasion. The Moot Court Mock Drill marks an important step in enhancing the knowledge and skills of police personnel in legal proceedings and court appearances.
