Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 20: The State Level Coordinating Agency of Jammu & Kashmir organized a three-day training program on de-addiction for health service providers in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. The program commenced on October 19, 2023, and was attended by health service providers from various districts of Jammu division, including Rajauri, Poonch, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, and Jammu. The training program was inaugurated by Dr. Ghanshyam Saini, Head of the Department of Pediatrics at Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital (SMGSH) and Government Maternity Hospital, in the presence of Dr. Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent of Government Maternity Hospital, Gandhi Nagar. Resource persons for the three-day training program were drawn from the Psychiatric department of Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, Government Maternity Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, and an Assistant Professor from the Department of Psychology at the University of Jammu. The program covered a wide range of topics, including the components of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, an overview of drugs, drug addiction prevention and treatment, the science of addiction and reward pathways, drug addiction in women and pregnant women, introduction to the ASSIST screening tool, its usage and scoring, pharmacotherapy in drug addiction, and basic counseling skills. The training program concluded on October 21, 2023, with a certificate distribution function. This initiative aimed to equip health service providers with the necessary knowledge and skills to address addiction-related issues and contribute to the larger goal of creating a drug-free India. |
