Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 20: In a significant step toward fostering natural and organic farming, dairy farming, and allied agricultural activities, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed today between the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu), Chatha, and the Narsingh Seva Kendra (NSK) in Village Khoon, Udhampur district. The MOU was signed under the esteemed supervision of Prof. B.N. Tripathi, the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, with the primary objective of advancing research and extension activities in the agricultural sector. The MOU was signed by Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Extension of SKUAST-Jammu, and Vikram Gujral, President of Narsingh Seva Kendra, in the presence of key members, including Raman Suri (Vice President NSK), Naresh Gupta (Treasurer), and other NSK members like Surinder Mohan, Sanjeev Sharma, S.K. Sethi, Jagdish Langar, Dr. Sanjay Kaushal, Dr. Narender Panotra, and Om Parkash, the President of Gau Seva Samiti, Mandli. The SKUAST-Jammu team was represented by Dr. R.K. Samnotra (Director Research), Dr. S.K. Gupta (Registrar), Dr. M.S. Bhadwal (Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry), and Dr. Mahital Jamwal (Associate Director Research). SKUAST-Jammu, a multi-campus university headquartered at Chatha, Jammu, plays a crucial role in conducting basic and applied research and extension activities related to agriculture, horticulture, forestry, agricultural engineering, basic sciences, veterinary sciences, animal husbandry, and dairy technology. The university boasts multiple research stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras across different agro-climatic zones of Jammu, focusing on achieving excellence in education, research, and extension services to uplift the farming community. On the other hand, Narsingh Seva Kendra, Khoon, is a part of Shri Narsingh Go Seva Samiti, Mandli, Kathua, which is actively involved in Gauseva (cattle welfare) activities. It extends its services by developing constructive programs to educate and empower the farming community by disseminating knowledge and skills that promote entrepreneurship in agriculture. Through this MOU, SKUAST-Jammu and NSK will collaborate on mutual interests, particularly in the development and demonstration of advanced technologies to benefit farmers, promote entrepreneurship, and enhance business management. The agreement will also involve the dissemination of successful technologies through training and demonstration, with both short-term and long-term goals to cater to the needs of farmers, startups, and entrepreneurs in the Jammu and Kashmir regions. This collaboration will facilitate the establishment of dairy farms, mushroom cultivation, high-density orcharding, demonstration units for crops, farmer training centers, and Yoga Training Centers to provide practical experience to the farming community and unemployed youth. Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, Prof. B.N. Tripathi, expressed the university's commitment to providing full technical support to Narsingh Seva Kendra for the benefit of the local farming community. Dr. Mahital Jamwal, Associate Director Research, extended a formal vote of thanks, marking the culmination of the event. This MOU signifies a promising step forward in promoting sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship, and knowledge-sharing in the region. |
