Fear grips border villages after Pak violates ceasefire during harvesting | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 21: Fear gripped border villages as Pakistan violated the ceasefire in the Arnia sector of Jammu district. Border dwellers have reasons to be worried because tension on the frontiers would cause huge losses to their Rabi crops, especially during the reaping season. Two BSF personnel were injured on October 17 when Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing on an Indian post in Arnia. The BSF lodged a strong protest with the Pakistan Rangers at a commandant-level flag meeting on Thursday. On Saturday Border Security Force (BSF) personnel fired a couple of warning shots after a group of people escorted by Pakistan Rangers came close to the international border here on Saturday, official sources said. According to the sources, a group of more than 20 people with a herd of bovine animals accompanied by three Pakistan Rangers personnel entered the Indian territory around noon following which a BSF jawan fired two warning shots. There was no retaliation from the other side, the sources said, adding that the people returned to the Pakistani side. "Firing has created tension among us because every year during sowing season Pakistan resorted to unprovoked firing to spread fear among farmers of border belts", border residents said. They said there was complete calm and peace on the border after February 25 this year when both countries announced to strictly adhere to cease-fire norms. "Violation of cease-fire especially before the beginning of harvesting season reflects Pakistan's nefarious designs,", they said. Despite agreeing to strictly adhere to a ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), Pakistan Rangers are repeatedly indulged in mischievous acts to scare residents in border villages, said authorities. |
