GDC Paloura, Mishriwala conducts lecture on domestic violence | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 21: The Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) and Women Development Cell of GDC Paloura, Mishriwala, organized a lecture on domestic violence with the aim of raising awareness among students. Advocate Kiran Thakur, a Cyber Security Expert and Human Rights Expert, conducted the session and introduced the students to their initiative called 'DHIRA' - a commitment to foster Awareness, Empowerment, and Legal Enlightenment. During the lecture, the resource person discussed the various forms of domestic violence faced by women and emphasized the need to generate awareness in the general public regarding the legal aid services available. She shared examples and anecdotes of domestic violence, capturing the students' attention and enlightening them about the different dimensions of this issue. The session also included a healthy discussion where students raised questions and shared their experiences. Dr. Ashu Vashisht, the principal of the college, stressed the importance of understanding the various laws related to domestic violence in the Indian Constitution and expressed concern about the underreporting of this social problem. The program was coordinated by the teams of ICC and WDC under the guidance of the convener, Professor Gitanjali Multani, and Professor Pooja Sharma. It concluded with a formal vote of thanks. This initiative aims to empower students with knowledge about domestic violence and their rights, fostering a safer and more informed society. |
