Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 25: A Division Bench of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, consisting of Chief Justice N Kotishwar Singh and Justice Rajesh Sekhri, has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) related to the establishment and construction of the Government Degree College in Marheen, Kathua. The Division Bench noted that the respondents had filed objections, including a statement from respondent no. 4, the Tehsildar of Marheen. In these objections, it was stated that the government had already taken necessary steps for the transfer of land in village Ladwal Andhar, Tehsil Marheen, District Kathua, for the establishment and construction of the Government Degree College in Marheen. The objection further elaborated that the State land had been identified for the purpose and that possession of the land had been given to the Principal of the Government Degree College, Kathua, on February 27, 2019. The revenue papers had been prepared, authenticated, and an indent had been submitted to the Director Colleges, Higher Education Department, Jammu, for the transfer of the State land. Eventually, the land measuring 151 kanals 05 marlas in village Ladwal Andher, Tehsil Marheen, had been transferred to the Higher Education Department, J&K, for the establishment/construction of the Government Degree College at Marheen. In light of these developments, the Division Bench observed that it was evident that the Government Degree College would be established in village Ladwal Andhar within the jurisdiction of Tehsil Marheen, which was consistent with the petitioners' request for the establishment of the college in Marheen. Therefore, the Division Bench concluded that nothing further remained for consideration in the present PIL. With these observations, the Division Bench closed the PIL. |
