Assembly polls will be held along with Lok Sabha elections, predicts Azad
10/29/2023 11:10:41 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 29: Two days after the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a notification for summary revision of electoral rolls in Jammu and Kashmir, veteran politician and chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) today predicted that maiden assembly elections in the Union Territory will be held simultaneously with the Parliament polls.
“Assembly and Lok Sabha elections would be held simultaneously with the Panchayat polls in the J&K in the month of March in 2024”, Azad said while addressing a public meeting at Ramban.
Azad, a former chief minister of the erstwhile state of J&K, called upon the party workers to start preparations for Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
“In the month of December, I will start preparations for the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls in J&K”, Azad said.
Important to mention here that the ECI has ordered a special summary revision of photo electoral rolls in all the Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies in J&K with January 2024 as the qualifying date.
In this regard, a notice has been issued by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K, P K Pole on Friday.
The notice issued by the CEO of J&K is a clear indication that the chances of maiden assembly elections in the Union Territory are bleak as the summary revision is a time-consuming exercise. Meanwhile, according to an official handout issued by the DPAP, Azad on Sunday promised people that his politics would always be based on moral and social values and he would never discriminate among his people on the basis of religion.
He said the foundation of DPAP is itself based on same principles since he believes in inclusiveness and equality and only promotes merit.
“ In my political career, I have never been discriminative and helping anyone for being from a particular religion. Because if we practice such tactics it can prove disastrous and insidious,” he said.
Azad said his works are advocating for my plurality since districts, colleges, hospitals, and other developmental works he did in Jammu and Kashmir are benefiting all human beings and not any particular community.
“ Today thousands of people turned to my rally here since they admit and appreciate my developmental projects in the area when I was the Chief Minister of erstwhile J&K state. I assure you all that more such projects will come up and Ramban will be one of the modern districts in the country if I am given a chance to serve my people again,” he said.
