GDC Kathua commemorates World Fisheries Day | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, Nov 21: Govt. Degree College Kathua marked World Fisheries Day with fervor, as the Department of Industrial Fish and Fisheries organized a series of events to highlight the significance of fisheries in global ecosystems and local communities. Under the commendable guidance of Principal Prof. Seema Mir, the celebration showcased the dedication and efforts of the Department in fostering awareness about the crucial role played by fisheries in providing sustenance, livelihoods, and economic opportunities worldwide. Dr. Jageshwar Dutt Saroch, Dr. Rumeet Kour, and Prof. Humaira Afshan, faculty members of the department, were lauded for their outstanding contributions. Prof. Seema Mir expressed her appreciation for the department's commitment to promoting responsible practices in the realm of fisheries. The highlight of the day was a poster-making competition, where students from various semesters participated enthusiastically. The competition focused on portraying the theme of sustainable fishing, shedding light on the importance of aquatic resources and the challenges they face. Dr. Jageshwar Dutt Saroch, speaking to the media, emphasized that such events are crucial for instilling a sense of responsibility among students and fostering actions that contribute to the long-term health of fisheries and aquatic environments. As part of the celebration, the department organized an educational field trip to a Community pond located within the premises of Sankat Mochan Shiv Temple, Shastri Nagar, Kathua. Prof. Raj Kiran Sharma flagged off the trip, joined by esteemed senior faculty members of the college.
