Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 21: In response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by residents of village Hari, urging the court to direct the initiation of eviction proceedings against encroachers on forest land in Compartment 51-A at village Hari in Surankote tehsil, the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has issued fresh directives. A Division Bench, consisting of Acting Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice MA Chowdhary, directed the submission of a new report. The court emphasized the need for a comprehensive update, especially regarding the steps taken to evict encroachers, excluding the reported 13 individuals who have already been evicted. Notably, during the hearing on November 8, 2021, the Division Bench took note of the PIL's revelation that 127 encroachers had been identified by the Forest Department. In response, directions were issued to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch, to provide the necessary support to facilitate the eviction of these encroachers from the forest land. |
