NC, PDP feud helps BJP, puts I.N.D.I.A alliance on crossroads | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 30: The I.N.D.I.A alliance has suffered a setback in Jammu and Kashmir as the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have sent a clear message that they would be contesting the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections independently. The I.N.D.I.A alliance, formed with the aim of presenting a united opposition front against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is finding itself grappling with internal discord. The National Conference, vice-president Omar Abdullah and the Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti in the recent past have made it amply clear that they are unlikely to enter into any pre-poll alliance. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “Decision of NC and PDP leaders to part ways has put a question mark on the stability and future of the I.N.D.I.A alliance in Jammu and Kashmir.” He said, “After the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, NC and PDP have made many attempts to bury the hatchet and be together but their moves haven’t been successful.” “The I.N.D.I.A alliance, which initially aimed to consolidate the regional vote share against the ruling BJP, now faces the daunting task of redefining its strategy and securing new partners. The split between the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party is a jolt to the alliance,” he said, adding, “The forthcoming parliamentary elections in J&K are set to witness a stiff competition among the opposition parties. It appears that the NC and PDP have wittingly or unwittingly helped the ruling BJP. Their decision to tread different paths has added a new layer of complexity to the already intricate political landscape in the region.” |
