Udhampur, Dec 2: Udhampur Police has successfully thwarted a narcotics smuggling attempt, apprehending two individuals and recovering more than 61 kilograms of poppy straw at Jakhani, NHW, Udhampur. Continuing its efforts against drug trafficking and substance abuse, a police team from PS Udhampur, led by SHO Inspector Raghubir Singh, conducted a checkpoint at Jakhani on NHW, Udhampur. The team intercepted a vehicle (truck) with registration number JK02DC 7519, traveling from Srinagar to Udhampur, and subjected it to checking. Upon searching the vehicle, the police discovered 61.430 kilograms of poppy straw-like contraband substance. The two occupants of the vehicle, identified as Kulvinder Singh, son of Karnail Singh, resident of Thakrkot, Reasi, and Kuldeep Raj, son of Charan Dass, resident of Kanahchak, Jammu, along with the driver, were arrested. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized. A case under sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act, FIR No. 613/2023, has been registered at Police Station Udhampur, and further investigation is underway. |
