Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 2: The Jammu & Kashmir Judicial Academy (JKJA) took a significant step in strengthening judicial institutions by organizing a one-day special training program for Munsiffs of Kashmir province and UT of Ladakh. The program, focused on 'Processes & Procedure in Criminal Cases, Cognizance and Trial of Criminal Offences, and Maintenance under Cr.P.C,' aimed to impart essential skills to judicial officers. Under the patronage of Chief Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, the program was inaugurated by Justice N. Kotiswar Singh and Justice Sanjeev Kumar, who is also the Chairperson of the Governing Committee for JKJA. The training program, conducted by former District & Sessions Judges M.Y Akhoon and Aijaz Ahmad Mir, covered various aspects of criminal cases, including the expedited trial and disposal of cases. During the inaugural address, Chief Justice N. Kotiswar Singh emphasized the crucial role played by Judicial Magistrates in the judicial system. He highlighted that magistrates, as the original authors, decide whether or not to enter a case into the system, making their role pivotal. Justice Sanjeev Kumar, in his special address, emphasized the significance of the training in enhancing the performance of judicial officers and expediting trial processes. The first technical session, led by M.Y Akhoon, covered relevant provisions of CrPC related to taking cognizance and committal of criminal cases. The second technical session delved into the process and procedure for private complaints, complaints under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, and ways to expedite the trial and disposal of criminal cases on police reports. The post-lunch session, chaired by Aijaz Ahmad Mir, discussed important provisions of the Domestic Violence Act 2005 and the Procedure & Practice related to plea-bargaining. The last session focused on alternatives to Habeas Corpus petitions, Section 97 of CrPC, and the procedure and practice related to Section 145 of CrPC. The program included an interactive session where participants had the opportunity to discuss various aspects of the subject and raise queries, which were addressed by the resource persons. The training aimed to equip judicial officers with the necessary skills to handle day-to-day challenges more effectively and efficiently. |
