Reserving assembly seats for PoJK refugees, KPs is a step towards Justice: Kavinder Gupta | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 6: Senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister, Kavinder Gupta, commended the Central Government’s decision to reserve one assembly seat for PoJK (Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir) refugees and two for Kashmiri Pandits (KPs), including one exclusively for KP women. Gupta stated that this move is aimed at providing justice to the persecuted communities that have faced victimization for decades. Gupta praised the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, asserting that these legislative measures will address the long-standing grievances of the displaced communities. He emphasized that the reservation of assembly seats will give a voice to the persecuted sections in the Union Territory’s legislature. While expressing support for the government’s decision, Gupta criticized political leaders in the Kashmir Valley for spreading misinformation and negative propaganda. He urged them to refrain from misleading people based on religion or ethnicity, emphasizing the importance of unity in society. Gupta highlighted that the Modi government’s goal is to empower the voiceless in the Union Territory, and the reservation of assembly seats aligns with this objective. Furthermore, Gupta stressed the significance of reserving seats for KP community women, considering the challenges they faced over the past three decades. He credited the Modi government for its commitment to delivering justice to all entities in Jammu and Kashmir and viewed these measures as part of that broader effort. |
