BJP starts preparations for assembly polls after passing of crucial bills in Lok Sabha | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 6: Notwithstanding confusing statements being given by the opposition parties, BJP started preparations for maiden assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir after passing of two crucial bills in the Lok Sabha. Highly placed sources said that passing of the these bills BJP will try to reap political benefits as Pahari speaking people and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) would be beneficial of these two bills. “Central leadership of the party has already indicated that after passing of crucial bills related to Jammu and Kashmir, assembly elections will be held in the Union Territory”, a senior BJP leader told The Early Times. On the condition of anonymity, the BJP leader said that after over three decades of struggle the Pahari speaking people have been granted Scheduled Tribe status and party is hopeful to get overwhelming support of this community in the coming elections. Sources said that during the last couple of months, BJP leadership has already started process to prepare panels of three potential candidates of each assembly segments in J&K. They said that apart from Hindu majority seats of Jammu province, BJP is also hoping to get maximum support of Pahari speaking people in Kashmir province so the party would be in a position to get majority on its own. Important to mention here that the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to nominate two members from the Kashmiri migrant community and one representing the displaced persons from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to the legislative assembly was passed by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The House also passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to change the nomenclature of a section of people who are eligible for quota in appointment and admission. The bills were passed after more than six hours of debate spanning over two days and a spirited reply by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The home minister said the two bills related to Jammu and Kashmir brought by the government will give justice to those deprived of their rights for the last 70 years and asserted that reservation to the displaced people will give them a voice in the legislature. |
