J&K BJP unit divided over holding LS, Assembly polls together

Jammu, Dec 30: BJP high command has sought feedback from its J&K unit regarding preparations for the simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the State.
Although a group within J&K BJP had mooted the idea of holding assembly polls after the Lok Sabha elections, high-command appears to be not convinced with the proposal of deferring assembly elections.
“We have already told our high command that J&K unit is ready for assembly elections at any time”, a senior BJP told on the condition of anonymity. He disclosed that party has started preparations both for assembly and Lok Sabha polls in the State.
“We have started preparations for assembly as well as Lok Sabha elections”, he said and revealed that as part of preparations process of short-listing potential candidates for assembly has already on the final stage.

“During their meeting with central leadership the J&K leadership had conveyed to the high command that a group was in favour of holding assembly elections after Lok Sabha polls”, a source said.adding.
Sources said that during Samnvay Baithak (coordination meeting) of various off-shoots of Sangh Parivar at Jammu
earlier month issue of holding assembly elections was thoroughly discussed. “As census eluded, the meeting authorized central leadership to take final call on assembly elections”, a source said.
As reported earlier during a meeting of BJP’s core group recently party leadership, including ex-MLAs, was unanimous that Assembly and Lok Sabha polls should be held simultaneously.
Sources said that majority of the party ex-MLAs were of the view that both the elections should be held simultaneously as it will help them to counter anti-incumbency.
