Agriculture Secretary visits mega fruit plant nursery | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 1: In a significant development, Secretary Agriculture Production & Farmers' Welfare Department, Shabnum Kamili, JKAS, visited the Mega Fruit Plant Nursery in Chakroi today. The visit followed the flagging off of a farmers' tour organized by the Kissan Advisory Board, as part of the Holistic Agriculture Development Plan (HADP). Accompanied by key officials including Director Horticulture Jammu, Director Horticulture Kashmir, Director Command Area Development, Secretary of Kissan Advisory Board, Managing Director JKHPMC, and other dignitaries, Shabnum Kamili took a comprehensive tour of the nursery. During the inspection, various state-of-the-art protected cultivation structures such as Hi-Tech poly greenhouses, Insect-proof net houses, Screen houses, and an Automated Micro Irrigation System were showcased. The Secretary gained insights into the production processes of quality fruit plants for different crops like Mango, Guava, Litchi, Cirrus, Dragon Fruit, among others. Shabnum Kamili also focused on the ongoing development of essential infrastructure, including Tissue Culture, Virus Indexing, and Bio-control Laboratories. The emphasis on creating cutting-edge facilities reflects a commitment to advancing agricultural practices and ensuring the distribution of high-quality plant material to the farming community. Director Horticulture Jammu, Ram Savak, provided a detailed briefing on the developmental works being executed in the nursery, covering an extensive area of 805 kanals. He highlighted the incorporation of the latest technologies for the production of true-to-type High-Density fruit plants. Expressing her appreciation, Secretary Shabnum Kamili lauded the department's efforts in developing the mega nursery on scientific lines. She urged the officers to work with enhanced enthusiasm to maximize the production of quality plant material, emphasizing the positive impact on the common farmer. The successful inspection marks a significant step towards promoting modern agricultural practices and ensuring the availability of superior plant varieties for the agricultural community, aligning with the objectives of the Holistic Agriculture Development Plan. |
