Srinagar freezes at minus 5.2 C | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 1: Unabated freezing cold continues in Kashmir Valley as Srinagar records a low of -5.2 C on the first day of the new year. The Meteorological Centre Srinagar said that the minimum temperature plummeting at Srinagar was recorded at -5.2 C on Monday, against the -3.4?C recorded the previous night. It was 3.1C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season. The maximum temperature recorded was 3.7C above the normal of 7.9C, against 11.6C in Srinagar the previous day. The other stations in the Kashmir Valley also witnessed above-normal day temperatures of 3-5 C. Pahalgam remained the coldest place, with -5.7 C against the -3.4C recorded the previous night. It was, however, 0.9C above normal for the tourist hot spot of south Kashmir. The night temperature at Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway plunged to a low of -3.6 C against the -2.6 C recorded the previous night, while Kokernag had a low of 1.7C against the -1.4C recorded a day ago. The mercury at Gulmarg improved by a notch and was recorded at -3.4 C against the -3.5 C recorded the previous night. It was 3.6 C above normal for the famous ski resort of North Kashmir. The night temperature at Kupwara dipped to a low of -4.5C against the -3.8C recorded a day ago. It was 2.0C below normal for the north Kashmir district, the MeT office said. The weather is likely to remain generally cloudy and dry until January 5, 2024. “Overall, there is no significant weather activity till January 5,” the MeT office said. |
