1/3/2024 10:51:12 PM
Early Times Report
POONCH, Jan 3: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Poonch has concluded its fourth successive two-day training program on Natural Farming, aimed at motivating farmers to adopt chemical-free farming practices. The training program, conducted under the project "Out scaling of Natural Farming through KVKs," took place on January 2nd and 3rd, 2024.
Following the guidelines of the project and under the guidance of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. B. N. Tripathi, and Director Extension, Dr. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-Jammu, the training program focused on creating awareness and providing essential knowledge to farmers interested in transitioning to natural farming practices.
In his virtual welcome and inaugural remarks on the first day, Sr. Scientist & Head of KVK Poonch, Dr. Ajay Gupta, emphasized the need for a behavioral shift in farmers to embrace cow-based and other formulations envisioned under Natural Farming. He highlighted that continuous awareness and training are essential for the success of natural farming, which aims to reverse the ill effects of chemical fertilizers and restore soil fertility.
Dr. Muzafar Mir, Fruit Scientist, discussed how Natural Farming can benefit vegetable and fruit growers by reducing input costs, increasing the quality of production, and improving economic returns. Dr. Mushtaq Guroo, Nodal Officer of NF, emphasized that Natural Farming is a cost-effective and regenerative agricultural practice crucial for biodiversity conservation and rural employment generation.
Dr. Ramandeep Kour, Senior Research Fellow, delivered a lecture on Integrated Pest Management under Natural Farming, providing insights into sustainable pest control methods.
The participating farmers expressed gratitude to KVK officials for organizing such training programs for the betterment of the farming community. The two-day program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Mushtaq Guroo.
The success of this initiative signifies a step forward in promoting sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices among farmers in the region. KVK Poonch remains committed to supporting farmers in adopting natural farming for long-term benefits in terms of soil health, productivity, and economic returns.
