Exciting news from J&K: PM Vishwakarma Yojana kickstarts to empower artisans!

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 3: In a significant development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fulfilled his commitment to transforming lives in Jammu and Kashmir by launching the PM Vishwakarma Yojana (PMVY). This initiative, aimed at empowering and enhancing the skills of artisans and craftspeople, is set to make a profound impact on the region.
Commending the Prime Minister's dedication to delivering on promises, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri expressed his enthusiasm for the launch. He stated that PM Modi's action on this central government scheme will bring about positive transformations in the lives of millions.
Jammu and Kashmir takes the lead as the first Union Territory to implement the PM Vishwakarma Yojana. The scheme entails comprehensive training for craftsmen, ranging from five to seven days of basic training to advanced sessions lasting 15 days or more. Additionally, participants will receive a stipend of Rs. 500 per day and a free modern toolkit worth Rs. 15,000 upon completion of their training.
Raman Suri highlighted the far-reaching benefits of PMVY, explaining that it will not only enhance the skills of craftspeople but also enable them to establish their own workstations or businesses. Trained artisans can then seek credit-based soft loans and marketing support to further expand their ventures.
The BJP leader emphasized the inclusive approach of the Modi government, stating that it is tirelessly working for the growth of all sections of society. From white-collared jobs to businesses and skilled labor, PM Modi's vision is to make India one of the top three economies globally. Schemes like PMVY play a crucial role in empowering professionals and contributing to the nation's economic self-reliance.
The launch of PMVK from Jammu and Kashmir underscores the region's priority for the Prime Minister. The initial phase will witness the training of 30 artisans in darzi craft at the Industrial Training Institute in Shopian, symbolizing a positive step in a region that was once affected by militancy.
As the scheme is expected to be extended to all districts of Jammu and Kashmir soon, it holds promise for numerous artisans involved in handicrafts, weaving, and other artisanal works. PMVY, initiated by the Central government in September 2023, aims to recognize and support artisans through PM Vishwakarma certificates and ID cards, fostering a more vibrant and self-reliant community.
