Srinagar, Jan 27: National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and Congress are at loggerheads over giving up their stake on parliamentary seats in Kashmir. Sources told Early Times that NC and PDP are yet to reach on any seat sharing consensus and chances of both the parties leaving any seats for each other look bleak. Pertinently, Parliamentary elections are likely to be held in April and May this year. Both NC and PDP are part of INDIA bloc, an alliance of opposition parties formed to give tough fight to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in forthcoming Parliamentary elections. Both PDP and Congress are claiming south Kashmir as their bastion Similarly NC is not ready to give up in north Kashmir. Pre-poll unison in the Jammu region also seems impossible. in those constituencies where they have strong foothold, resulting the parties are yet to reach any consensus on seat sharing. "Both PDP and Congress are claiming south Kashmir as their bastion and are not ready to allow other parties to field candidates there. Similarly NC is not ready to give up in north Kashmir,” sources added. They said the pre-poll unison in Jammu region also seems impossible as Congress is not ready to give up any seat there. It may be recalled that National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah has been reiterating that no discussion can be held over the seats that are already with INDIA bloc. In 2019 parliamentary polls NC had won all the three seats from Kashmir. |
